Perfectionism syndrome involves rigid high standards, conditional self-worth and intolerance of mistakes. It is associated with specific patterns in executive control, reward and stress-regulation networks.
The dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) supports planning and monitoring. In perfectionism, DLPFC may operate in a hypervigilant mode, constantly scanning for errors and potential improvements.
The anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) detects conflict and mistakes; elevated ACC activation contributes to chronic feelings that "something is wrong" even when outcomes are adequate.

Perfectionism syndrome is not simply "high standards", but a neurocognitive pattern that narrows life. Adjusting beliefs, behaviours and stress responses can preserve quality while reducing suffering.
